Most referrals to other specialists will require you seeing or speaking with a GP. However, there are a number of local services, listed below, that you are able to make self referrals to.

Weight loss medicines and lifestyle changes

You may have heard in the media about a new weight loss medicine - Mounjaro, also known as Tirzepatide being the newest one. The NHS expects to be able to give it to some people to help with weight loss from April 2025. Fill in the self referral form to get in touch.

Sexual Health Services

We provide free and confidential sexual health services in North Tyneside and Northumberland for anyone aged 13 and over.

This service is available in North Tyneside to hep support adults who are in a mental health crisis due to practical situations that are impacting their lives, such as the cost of living crisis, debt or financial worries, housing issues or relationship difficulties.

Maternity Care – Registering you Pregnancy

As soon as you find out you are pregnant you are able to book for maternity care directly with Northumbria Healthcare Maternity Services instead of contacting your GP. We recommend that you do this as soon as possible so that we can arrange your 1st booking appointment for between 8 – 10 weeks. This also helps us offer screening tests for you and your baby at the correct stage in your pregnancy.

We can offer a wide range of support to help you find the right solution to your weight problems. We are working to provide more services as quickly as we can. We know that waiting lists are longer than we would like. GP practices are getting lots of questions about weight loss medicines.

Quitting smoking

There are many benefits of quitting smoking and support from a Stop Smoking Adviser increases your chance of stopping for good. Some pharmacies in North Tyneside are able to offer free support. Over the course of 12 weeks, you'll work with your adviser to choose an appropriate treatment, learn how to use the treatment correctly, and come up with a plan tailored to your lifestyle to help you deal with cravings.

We are an independent charity and the only general carer support service in North Tyneside supporting both young and adult carers. Our knowledgeable team supports carers with everything from advocacy to mental health through one to one sessions and peer support groups.
